社を囲むお堀は干上がってしまってますが、かつてのお堀を跨ぐ石橋があり、往時をしのぶことができます。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ここのことではないのでしょうが、蓮田という地名は、都から奥州に朝廷の御用で向かっていた僧が、この地にたどり着いたのが夜であったそうで、仕方なくお堂を見つけて一夜の宿としたそうだ。翌朝、お堂から出て見ると目の前に一面の蓮の花が咲いていたそうで、まるでこの世の極楽みたいな風景から蓮田という地名が付いたとされている。

The next morning, when I walked out of the hall, a lotus flower bloomed in front of me, and it is said that the place named Hasuda was named after the paradise of this world.
