布目川の浸食によって河床の花崗閃緑岩やトーナル岩が露頭している。
【場所】
柳生方面か国道163号から沈下橋を渡るルートがあるがどちらの道も狭く、駐車場がないので車で来ることは推奨できない。
【成因】
河底や河岸の表面が硬い場合、表面に割れ目などの弱い部分があるとそこが水流による侵食のためにくぼみとなる。
河底のくぼみに渦巻き流が生じ、中に落ち込んだ礫が回転しながら河床を深く侵食し拡大する。
その後、河底が侵食の影響で下がり、甌穴のできた場所は水面より高くなる。その結果、甌穴が地表に見られるようになる。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ あちこちに甌穴(おうけつ)があります。ダムができるまでは、かなりの水量の川だったのでしょう。
ここに来るには、163号線の沈下橋か柳生方面からの道しかありませんが柳生からの川沿いの道は普通車はかなり厳しいです。対向車のすれ違いは出来ません。道もかなり荒れています。沈下橋からも道幅が狭いので気をつけてください。甌穴のある場所は駐車スペースはありません。少し歩きますが、辛うじてダムの水の流れるパイプ？のようなところに1台が停められます。
夏はとても涼しくて気持ちの良い場所だと思います。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 笠置駅から歩いて来ましたが、それ程遠くはなく割に簡単でした。整備された道路から甌穴群に下る道も、ちゃんと有り、そこから河原に下ればそんなに探さずに甌穴は見付かります。
100万年も流れが削り凹めた花崗岩の穴には、流れ続けた今迄の中で、これまで絶えずに、流れに出会えたこと、歴史的様々な場面を想像せずにはいられませでした。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ずーっと行ってみたかった甌穴群を笠置ROCKから東海自然歩道銀の帯を歩いて行ってきた。
一番衝撃的なのは元旅館の廃墟みたいなお化け屋敷笠置館でした?笑笑
