This Aoshi Shrine, whose main deity is Tadatoki, is quite old as it has a history from the middle of the Edo period. The main shrine is said to be Gongen-zukuri, which is modeled after Nikko Toshogu, but the main shrine is a separate building, similar to Chichibu's Mitsumine Shrine. The magnificence of the shrine is not as far as Nikko Toshogu, not even Mitsumine Shrine, but it feels suitable for the Makino family, whose family style is the "resident battlefield." The precincts are also the historic site of the Battle of Hokuetsu, which is considered to be one of the most fierce battlefields of the Boshin War, and there is a tombstone of Kawai Tsugunosuke and Yamamoto Tatewaki, and a shōkonsha dedicated to the war dead of the Nagaoka domain in the Boshin War and the Satsuma Rebellion. .. For that reason, the tombstones of the Makino family, which were relocated from a temple in Tokyo in 1983, have a solemn appearance. Although there are no national treasures or national important cultural properties, it looks like it is different from the hundreds of shrines and temples. I would be grateful if I survived the Battle of Hokuetsu and the air raid on Nagaoka. Although it is located outside the center of Nagaoka City, there are 3-4 buses per hour from the east exit of Nagaoka Station, so I don't feel any inconvenience. The nearest bus stop to the shrine is the entrance to Yukyuzan Park, but you can feel the atmosphere if you visit Yukyuzan, the last stop, through a row of cherry blossom trees.
