★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 木造阿弥陀如来立像は，寄木造で玉眼を嵌入（かんにゅう）する，県内最古の在銘像である。もとは漆箔であったらしいが，後世の修理や表面補修によって当初の像容は相当損なわれてしまっている。とはいうものの，全体としてすっきりとまとまった体躯，ひきしまった理知的な顔立ち，螺髪（らほつ）は細く，髪際の曲線はなだらかで大腿部を強調するY字型の衣文構成など，快慶の作風を伝承している。ただし，内衣をまとっている点，左肩に掛かる大衣末端の大振りな動きなどは，一連の快慶の阿弥陀如来像ではみることができず，本像が単純な模刻像ではないことを物語っている。像左足ほぞの外側に刻まれた「承久三年二月日作佛僧宋實」という銘文から，承久3年（1221）に宋實という作仏僧によって製作されたことがわかる。なお，宋實については明らかでない。

阿弥陀寺（あみだじ）は、宮城県仙台市若林区新寺3丁目にある時宗の寺院。本尊は阿弥陀如来。仙台三十三観音霊場第17番札所にあたり、観音堂の本尊は正観音。山号は法王山、院号は正覚院。江戸時代の寺領は24石。 開山は時宗開祖の一遍。開基は伊達氏4代目当主伊達政依。
建治3年（1277年）に奥州巡化に来た一遍を開山として、伊達政依が陸奥国伊達郡梁川村（現在の福島県伊達市梁川町）において創建する。
伊達氏に伴って、岩出山、仙台城下と移転し、仙台藩2代目藩主・伊達忠宗の治世中に現在地に移転した。
享保元年（1716年）に寺内に観音堂が創建される。
仙台藩奉行の黒沢要人俊栄の墓がある。

In 1277, the founder of the Oshu pilgrimage came to open, and Date Masai founded it in Ryokawa Village, Date County, Mutsu Province (now Ryokawa Town, Date City, Fukushima Prefecture).
With Mr. Date, he moved to Iwadeyama and Sendai Castle, and moved to his present location during the reign of Date Tadamune, the second lord of the Sendai clan.
The Kannon temple was built in the temple in the first year of Kyoho (1716).
There is a tomb of Shunei Kurosawa, the magistrate of the Sendai domain.
