★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 天野遠景の墓が在る場所は、薬師ノ段と呼ばれ、かつては、遠景の念持仏･薬師如来を祀っていた薬師堂が在ったと云われ、薬師如来は、墓近くの東昌寺に在る薬師堂に祀られています。
天野遠景は、伊豆国天野郷を本拠地とした豪族で、源頼朝の挙兵に最初から参陣し、石橋山の戦いでは大敗した頼朝を守るため奮戦し、富士川の戦いでは、頼朝挙兵に敵対した伊東祐親を捕縛する手柄を上げました。
西海(九州)の平定に功を上げ、九州惣追捕使に任じられました。
頼朝亡き後は、表舞台から遠ざけられ不遇な晩年を過ごしたと伝わっています。
