田沢湖線の駅で盛岡駅から5駅です。 盛岡側から来た場合岩手県最後の駅で、隣の田沢湖駅までは峠を越えて駅間距離が18.1kmあるそうな。 盛岡駅発大曲行き始発列車に乗ると、ここで切り離し作業を行います。ちょっと珍しくて面白い運用だなと思っちゃいました。 1.盛岡駅を6両編成で出発する。ただし客扱いするのは前側2両のみで、後ろ4両は回送扱い 2.ここで回送の4両を切り離し、前2両が大曲駅へ向かう 3.後ろ4両が最初は一部ホームから外れて停車していたのをホームに合わせて少し移動させる。 4.折り返し当駅始発列車になり、4両が盛岡行きとして運行 ただ当駅自体は駅舎もない無人駅です。 国道沿いではありますがあまり目立たず、駅周辺の民家も少ないです。 県境を越える普通列車は1日わずか4往復です。岩手県側の普通列車も雫石駅で折り返す設定が多く、当駅までは来ない便が多いです。もちろん秋田新幹線「こまち」は全列車通過です。 列車の増解結作業自体は、全国探せば行われている駅はそこそこありますが、駅員や設備もない完全な無人駅で行われるパターンはあまりないのではないでしょうか。
