まだ京橋の川沿いに「雁木（がんぎ）」があった頃には、現在地よりずっと川下にあったそうです。雁木が、台風などによる大水対策工事により、埋め立てられたのを機に現在地へ移転。それまで現在地には、手押しの井戸と大きなセンダの木があったようですが、台風と改修で伐られてしまったのこと。京都宇治市の橋姫神社から分霊されたこちらの神社ですが、橋姫（瀬織津姫）は、大祓詞に登場する災厄抜除の女神であり、川の穢れを清める水の神でもあります。橋や川を守る女神のため、その水の流れで人間についた悪縁や苦しみ、罪を洗い流し、河口まで運んでいってくれると言われています。そのため橋姫神社は男女の縁や病気、苦しみ、悪癖などあらゆる悪縁を断ち切り、清らかな状態にしてくれる力があるとして知られている神社です。

For this reason, Hashihime Shrine is a shrine known to have the power to cut off any badges such as men's and women's rims, diseases, suffering, bad habits and make them pure.
