★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 日本一早く咲き開花時期が1ヶ月と長い桜。～以下説明より～「あたみ桜」は、明治4年（1871年）頃イタリア人によって熱海にもたらせたと伝えられています。その後、先人たちの努力によって殖やされ、現在では市内各所に植栽されています。「あたみ桜」の品種のルーツは、沖縄原産のカンヒザクラと関西以西の暖地帯に自然分布するヤマザクラとの自然雑種であり、開花期は１月で沖縄のカンヒザクラと並んで日本で最も早く花が咲きます。また、ひとつの枝に早期に開花する花芽と後期に咲く花芽が形成されるため、開花時期が1ヶ月以上と長いのが特徴です。（一般的な桜の開花期間は１～２週間）市政40周年にあたる昭和52年4月には、「市の木」に制定されました。

河津桜よりか約1ヶ月早く満開を見れます。
2/4日現在糸川沿い・梅園前市道の桜は満開です?見頃です。開花期間が短いのでお早めに！
ただ名所が散らばっていて坂道を登るのが大変です。去年行ったらもう散ってました。旅館で露天風呂に入り翌日河津桜を見に行きました。河津は熱海に比べて道が平坦です。

As of 2/4, the cherry blossoms along Itokawa and Umezono-mae are in full bloom. As the flowering period is short, be as soon as possible!
However, it is hard to climb the slope because the famous places are scattered. It was already scattered when I went last year. I went to an open-air bath at a ryokan and went to see Kawazu Sakura the next day. Kawazu has a flatter road than Atami.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 熱海桜の標準木を1月11日糸川桜祭り開催日に訪れましたが、時期尚早、残念！桜のつぼみはかず多くあり、あと数日でや見頃になるようだ。枝先にいくつかの桜は確認。
