★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 布留川が山間から平地へ抜け出たところ、石上神宮の裏手の辺りでは布留川は深い谷を刻んで流れている。
このため川に架ける橋は川面からはるかに高いところを跨いでいる。
古来そうであったらしく、今でもそうである。
こんな布留の高橋を詠んだ歌
「石上 布留の高橋 高高に 妹が待つらむ 夜ぞふけにける」（万葉集）

この布留川に架かる橋は全国の｢高橋｣姓のルーツと言われます。もとの｢高橋｣の正確な場所は不明とされ、現在の橋は近年再建されました。｢高橋｣の歴史は非常に古く、日本最古の道とされる｢山の辺(へ)の道｣、日本最古の神宮である｢石上神宮｣に隣接します。また万葉集にも｢石上 布留の高橋 高高に 妹が待つらむ 夜そ更けにける｣と詠われます。
現在の橋は普通の小さな橋ですが、川底からは高所に架かるように見え、当時の人々にとっては立派な橋に思われていました。また、この付近で暮らされる人々は｢高橋｣姓を名乗り、全国各地に生活の場を求めて行かれた可能性があります。また橋のすぐ下には｢ハタの滝｣が見えます。布留川は6月上旬～中旬にゲンジボタルが舞うところでもあります。江戸時代に描かれた石上神宮の絵図には夏越大祓式を執り行う祓殿があったとされます。

In addition, it is possible that people living in the vicinity took the surname of "Takahashi" and went to various places in Japan to seek places of living. You can also see "Hata-no-taki" just below the bridge. The Nunodome River is also where Genji fireflies dance from early to mid June. It is said that the picture of Ishigami Jingu, which was drawn during the Edo period, contained a shrine for the Great Natsukoshi ceremony.
