i	ienari10 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ バイオリンのリサイタルがここであり、初めて訪れました。音響という点ではホールにかないませんが、建物内にさしこむ日射しが美しくてそこにいるだけでも幸せな感じになったのを覚えています。すぐ隣の明日館ではちょうど結婚式が行われていました。 The violin recital is here and I visited for the first time. Y	Yoshiyuki Ogawa on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 自由学園は、大正10年(1921)に羽仁吉一、もと子夫妻により女学校としてこの地に創立された。建物の設計は、友人の建築家遠藤新を介して当時帝国ホテルの設計に従事していた米国人建築家・フランク・ロイド・ライトに依頼した。ライトは、羽仁夫妻の教育方針を聞いて、ライトの叔母が設立したヒルサイド・ホームを思い出して共感し、設計の依頼を受諾したといわれている。学園は昭和9年(1934)に現在の東久留米市に移転後、夫妻は自由学園と日本の教育の明日を託して「明日館」と命名された。建物は、中央棟、東西教室棟及び道路南側の講堂からなっており、軒高を低く抑え水平線を強調した立面等、ウィスコンシンの大平原を舞台としてライトが発想したプレーリーハウスと呼ばれる草原住宅のたたずまいが特徴となっている。明日館は平成13年(2001)に修理が完成、使いながら保存する「動態保存」を志向し、公開講座等の開催のほか、一般の利用にも供されている。主な文化財（建築物）は下記。・自由学園明日館　講堂・自由学園明日館　西教室棟・自由学園明日館　東教室棟・自由学園明日館　中央棟 Jiyu Gakuen was founded in 1921 as a girls' school by Yoshikazu Hani and his wife.
