There was an exhibition of Jomon pottery taken by Taro Okamoto, so I visited there. To be clear, Taro Okamoto is an artist and not a photographer. Unlike sculptures and paintings, I didn't feel any impact from photography. More than that, the introduction of national treasure pottery and special textiles in the permanent exhibition was more fulfilling. You may visit it once.

From the Jomon period to the present day, you can learn about the nature, life and industry of Tokamachi. Today I came to see the national treasure "flame-type pottery". There is also an exhibition of replicas that are the same size and weight as the real thing. You can actually touch it and lift it (oh, heavy). The shading device, Rebrica, which was excavated in Aomori, had a similar exhibition and I had a good experience.

A museum where you can experience the life of a snowy country You can see the Jomon pottery, a national treasure. Not only can you see it, you can also restore the debris and touch the replica directly. I feel the history when I hear that flame-type pottery has been excavated only in this area of the Shinano River. In the kimono corner, there is a history of the changing trends of the times and a catalog of patterns of patterns when selling kimono to daimyo, so I feel a sense of familiarity that that person was also doing business. .. If you look at the photos and models of the snow country corner when it was piled up 4 meters, it's the same Japanese! Or, this kind of life is different at this distance from Tokyo! I'm surprised. After coming here, visiting Tokamachi will deepen your understanding of the city.

There is a national treasure Jomon pottery. The real thing is a masterpiece. It was so wonderful that I couldn't speak. I understood the life of the Jomon period very well. In addition to the Jomon period, there are also exhibits of people who have lived with snow and kimono. The diorama right after entering is also wonderful, and I think you can see everything in the Shinano River basin. If you come to Tokamachi City, I think it is a recommended spot to visit.

This was my first time visiting the museum even though I lived in Tokamachi for 5 years. I was always worried that there wouldn't be enough English available to really understand, but it was actually great! They provided me with an English pamphlet and the signs often had some English available too. The exhibits were very detailed and very interesting. They provided some insight into how people managed to live in such a snowy place. I would recommend this place to anyone with an interest in history or culture, because it is absolutely full of artifacts that showcase both!
