これにより空いた現在地には役場が移転するとのこと。(もっぱらそういう話らしい)
なお、吉野川の対岸にあたるが所在は上市となっている。
これはかつて中州が存在した名残で、伊勢湾台風による被害を契機に河道を北寄りに変更し、二股の流路だったところの片方を埋め立てた由。
