西川沿いにはレトロな町並みが広がります。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 越後線と弥彦線が交差するターミナル駅です。ただ越後線の新潟方面以外は便数少ないです。
ラッシュ時の新潟方面は6両や7両などの長編成の列車も設定されています。
ホームは3面5線の規模があり、始発終着の列車も多いです。
ただ乗り換えは同一ホームでできない場合も多いにもかかわらず、エレベーター等のバリアフリー設備はありません。
本数は少ないものの、当駅～東三条間を新潟経由で大回りする長岡方面発着の普通列車があります。

越後線に乗った場合は出雲崎または柏崎はたまた内野、さらに新潟大学前か新潟まで、新潟からは白新線まで乗り継いで豊栄または新発田まで、まだ行く場合は村上まで乗ってみたくなり、弥彦線に乗った場合は弥彦または燕はたまた燕三条、さらに東三条まで乗ってみたくなりますよ！

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 弥彦線の本数が極端に少ないのでよく調べて行った方が良いです。1時間に1本も走ってないとは思ってもみず、燕三条駅まで行こうと思ったら、14時台は電車がない。待ち時間に1時間半かかってしまった。観光地ではないので降りても何もない。
The number of Yahiko Lines is extremely small, so you should check it carefully. I didn't think I was running even one train an hour, but when I decided to go to Tsubamesanjo Station, there was no train at 14:00. It took an hour and a half to wait. It's not a tourist spot, so there's nothing to get off.
