鍋	鍋割山のギン太 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 八斗島(やったじま)という珍しい町名は、人の名前からきています。江戸時代の始め、境野八斗兵衛という人が、この辺りを開拓しました。領主であった酒井家が、その功績を称えて、八斗島村としたのだそうです。もともと八斗兵衛は那波氏の家臣でしたが、戦国時代の激流のなかで主家は滅亡、帰農して利根川の中洲であった稗島を開墾しました。その土地を酒井雅楽頭忠清に献上したところ、喜んだ忠清は彼の労苦に報いるため、稗島に八斗島村という名を与えたとのことです(^_^ゞのちに八斗兵衛の次男であった庄司吉隆は、那波氏の菩提を弔うために出家し(現在の伊勢崎駅前の)同聚院の住職となりました。さらには永平寺の大和尚となり、徳川光圀に乞われて禅を教えるほどの高僧になったとのことです。あまりに面白い地名なので調べていたら、水戸の御老公に行き着くとは思いませんでした(^^) The rare name of the town called Yachtoshima is from the name of the person.
