江戸時代中期に鎮座したと伝えられています。
別名、夜刀神とも言われ、慶応3年（1867）戌辰4月に川辺郡矢問村の氏神、平野大明神の宮地として八幡宮社が創設されました。
主祭神は応神天皇と思われますが、詳細は不明です。
