★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 若松町は、明治4年(1871年)に誕生しました。
新しい町という意味を込め、また高崎にはゆかりのある松の字を取って「若松町」と名づけたといいます。
慶長3年(1598年)当時は和田と呼ばれていた地に、新しく城を築こうとした井伊直政は、鷹を飛ばして、適地を探しました。
すると鷹が松の一樹に止まったので、その場所を城地に決めました。
また、このことから和田の名を改め「松ヶ崎」としようとしましたが、箕輪龍門寺の白庵から「松といえども永遠に栄えるものではない」と諫言され「成功高大」の意味から「高崎」と命名したといいます。
このように高崎は、その初めから松にゆかりがあります。
昔から高崎には、美しい松林があったのでしょう。高松町にも松という字が入っています(^_^ゞ
