★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 元弘3年(1333年)新田義貞が鎌倉に攻め入ると、執権北条高時は東勝寺に退いて、一族とともに自害して果てました。
そのとき、弟の僧慧性と荒間朝春は、この地へ逃れて来て、城を築いたといいます。
のちには多々良四郎忠致、小曽根政義などという武将が城主となりますが、天正18年(1590年)廃城となりました。
ひとつには何故「鶉」という名前が付いたのか、知りたくて訪ねたのですが…説明板にも書いてありませんでした。
もうひとつは猫チャンがイッパイ居るとのことで会いに行ったのですが…「野良猫に餌をやらないで下さい」と入り口に書いてあり、姿を見かけませんでした。
でも草むらのなかに、水をいれたお皿が置いてあったので…たぶん隠れているンでしょう(^_^;)
なお、この鶉のナゾについては、後で偶然に知りました。
その昔、八幡太郎義家の子孫に当たる源義兼は、いまの栃木県足利市に住んでいました。
彼は鶉を好み、とても可愛がっていましたが、ある夜のこと。
飼っている鶉が「金の鳥籠よりも、自由に野山で遊びたい」と悲しそうに訴えている夢を見ました。
心優しい義兼は、目が覚めるとすぐに、鶉を野山に放してやるよう命じました。
鶉は奥女中が預り、自分の里へ連れて行って放してやりました。
それから、その土地を鶉と呼ぶようになったのだそうです。
いまでも邑楽町町には「大字鶉」の地名が残っているということです(*^^*)

But there was a dish of water in the grass ... maybe it's hidden (^ _ ^;)
In addition, I knew about this mysterious nazo by chance later.
A long time ago, Yoshiyoshi Kan, the descendant of Taro Yahata, lived in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture.
He loved candy and was very cute, but one night.
I had a dream that my niece sadly appealed, "I want to play in the wilderness more freely than the golden bird cage."
As soon as she woke up, kind-hearted Yoshikane ordered him to let go to Noyama.
The niece was taken care of by the wife, and was taken to her home and released.
Since then, the land has come to be called 鶉.
It still means that the place name of “Large 鶉” remains in Kairakucho (* ^^ *)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 多々良沼を水堀とした城跡ですが、水堀以外は堀と土累で守られた城です。城跡としては古い時代かと想われます。縄張り図がないので詳細が解りにくい。
多々良沼は大きいです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 多々良沼に突き出た半島を堀と土塁で区切った城跡です。やや館林城跡にも似ていますが、城内は公園化されたため、遺構を確認することはできません。古は刀鍛冶が居住していたと言う逸話があります。
城内は広く、城の性格から防御のためにではなく、兵站の確保の色彩が強く、敵地における兵の根拠地として使われた可能性が考えられます。

桜と藤の季節は散策に最高です。
If you go to Tataranuma, why not stop by this old castle and Benzaiten? Tatara-numa is a little over 5 kilometers around.
The season of cherry blossoms and wisteria is the best for a walk.
