★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 新第三紀中新世後期の層厚約700mの堆積岩の露頭。デイサイト質火砕岩・凝灰質砂岩・シルト岩互層からなり、塊状デイサイト質火砕岩からなる男助部層をはさむ。なお、この堆積岩の後の時代には、琵琶湖よりはるかに広い古雫石湖と名付けられた古代の湖が、雫石西方から志和稲荷付近まで広がっていた。
 Outcrop of sedimentary rock of about 700 m thickness in late Neogene Miocene. It consists of dacitic pyroclastic rock, tuffaceous sandstone and siltstone alternating layers, and is surrounded by a majestic dacolithic pyroclastic rock. It should be noted that in the later period of this sedimentary rock, an ancient lake named Otoishi Lake, which is much wider than Lake Biwa, spread from the west of Shizukuishi to near Shiwa Inari.
