★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 明治22年(1889年)植木村と蓮(はちす)村が合併し、村名を「植蓮」として郡役所に届け出ました。
その際、窓口の係員が下植木赤城神社の多宝塔に刻んである「殖木宮」(うえきのみや)にあやかって「殖蓮」にしたらどうかと提案しました。
ちょうど殖産工業が叫ばれていた時代でもあり、地域発展の願いも込めて、これを採用し「殖蓮」としたといいます。
そのときの提案者は、のちに伊勢崎町長となった石川泰造氏だそうです(^_^ゞ

At that time, it was suggested that the clerk at the window cheering on "Koukimiya" (Ueki no Miya), which is carved in the multi-story pagoda of Shimoueki Akagi Shrine, and make it "Shoren".
It is also a time when Shokusan Kogyo was being shouted, and with the wish of regional development, it was adopted and said to be "Souren".
The proponent at that time seems to be Taizo Ishikawa, who later became the mayor of Isesaki (^ _ ^ ゞ
