本尊は大日如来。商売繁盛・夫婦円満の歓喜天（お聖天さま）もお祀りしています。歓喜天大祭では当寺オリジナルの散華を用いており、餅まきには堺市中区・堺市東区の地域の方々で賑わいます。最寄駅は、南海高野線『北野田駅』、泉北高速鉄道『泉ヶ丘駅』。行基菩薩の開基とされる和泉霊場第14番札所。永代供養墓。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 見野山にあった行基の庵を移転して建立されたお寺とされている。行基による建立は伝説に過ぎない場合が多いのだが、堺市中区陶器地区は行基の故郷と隣接しており、行基を支えた「知識」集団が庵の建立に関わったかもしれない。なお移転自体は江戸時代ではないかとのこと。
確かなことは、明治時代に入ってこの月輪寺に初等教育施設が置かれたこと（江戸時代に寺子屋があったのかもしれない）。陶器地区の近代教育発祥の地として、地区の方にとっては大切な場所だそうだ。
It is said to be a temple built by relocating Gyoki's hermitage on Minoyama. The construction by Gyoki is often just a legend, but the pottery district in Naka-ku, Sakai City is adjacent to Gyoki's hometown, and the "knowledge" group that supported Gyoki may have been involved in the construction of the hermitage. It is said that the relocation itself was in the Edo period.
What is certain is that a primary education facility was set up at Tsukirinji in the Meiji era (maybe there was a Terakoya in the Edo era). As the birthplace of modern education in the pottery district, it is said to be an important place for the district.
