妙哲禅師は、鎌倉時代に奥州（現・東北地方）に生まれ、雲巌寺（黒羽町）の仏国国師の弟子となり、この伝法寺や妙雲寺（塩原町）同慶寺（宇都宮竹下町）を開き、下野国内に臨済宗をひろめた中心人物である。墓碑は高さ1.48ｍの安山岩製で、八角形の基礎の上に八角柱の竿石を立て、ここに中台をのせ、その上に卵形の塔身を安置した無縫塔である。墓碑の基礎面に、禅師の功績と貞和５年（1349）11月12日の没年を刻んでいる。

 I walked on a rough mountain road washed away by heavy rain.
Myosozen was born in Oshu (now Tohoku) during the Kamakura period and became a disciple of a Buddhist priest of Ununji (Kurohacho). A central figure who spread Rinzai sect in Shimono. The tombstone is made of andesite with a height of 1.48m. It is a non-sewn tower with an octagonal column meteorite on an octagonal foundation, a central platform placed on it, and an oval tower resting on it. The foundation of the gravestone marks the achievement of Zen Master and his death on November 12, 1349.
