★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tohoku University is one of the best universities in the world. My son has studied here since his undergraduate days up until now, as he is finishing his doctoral studies. He was also the valedictorian of the 2017 graduation. As a parent I am very happy of the environment of the study, the staffs, and also the lecturers here. Because the synergy and the education system really helps my son to be a better person....

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ To be honest, engineering course in Tohoku University is not so well designed. The poor arrangement by putting third-year undergrad course on the first year course schedule was really confusing and beyond our level at that time. The classes supposed to be taught in English sometimes are completely in Japanese. The undergraduate class contents sometimes can be surprisingly shallow and meaningless, as attendance is the most important thing in this university not understanding. One of few things good here is that I don't have to pay my tuition fee. But on the other hand, the promising statement of "a lot of opportunities to get scholarship" is just disappointing. To sustain yourself in this university, you NEED money in your bank account to prepare what's gonna happen next.
I guess Tohoku University is a good one in Japan, as it indeed in the engineering and science society in Japan. However, internationalization in this university is still in progress and I would say not even mature enough.
At this moment, I would say I will not even think about working or continuing my graduate study here in Sendai nor Japan. Life is tough here people, get ready and think carefully before you come here. Good luck to you and me.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I graduated from this university. I was the third generation of the international engineering course. When I was there in 2013 to 2017, most of the classes were in English, but some were taught in Japanese with minimal English translation which was frustrating. I was quite upset with the university at that time. I told the Engineering department that all the classes that an international student need to take in an international engineering course must be offered fully in English as the university advertised when I enroll in this course. The university setup a meeting for international student who were upset with the courses to talk with the dean, program supervisor and other faculty staff member. After our feedback and complaint, the university improved immediately. My junior has a class that was fully taught in English and more classes were offered in the later year. I am really impress is how the university took the complaint seriously and improve accordingly. This really shows how the hospitality and consideration of the Japanese.

Attend if you are comfortable with no job offers after graduation.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The sakura season is over in Sendai - the blossoms are falling and the leaves are breaking out. And this year we were not able to have picknicks under the trees due to the pandemic quasi-emergency.
But do not let that stop you from planning a visit to Tohoku! You can still see sakura in Aomori....

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Came here for a short walk as a tourist. This Uni trumps my home Uni in Singapore (not gonna name which) in terms of scenery and nature. Buildings are designed nicely and there are trees lining every street. We stopped by a cafe to get from delicious bread and coffee. I'm not sure how the curriculum is like but I'm pretty sure that I would've loved to do an exchange here.
