天満宮の他に伏見稲荷、厳島弁財天も鎮座する。境内は決して広くはないが厳かな雰囲気が漂っている。
常時閉まっているが、宮司さんの家が隣接していて、家に行けば御札などを購入できる。

〇御祭神 日本武尊 菅原道真大人之命
〇由緒
上古、日本武尊（やまとたけるのみこと）が東国平定のみぎり陣営をおいたところと言われ、後にその陣営跡は払鬼城（ふっきじょう）と称され、平安時代の825年（天長２年）その跡に一社を創建し、鎮護国家の神として、日本武尊と地主神の神霊を祀り、払鬼大明神と称し、諸民の崇敬が非常に篤かった事が伝えられている。
後小松天皇御代応永３年(1396)山形城主斯波直家公が、日頃崇敬していた菅原道真公の後神霊を山城国北野天満宮より分霊勧請し、菅原公自筆の画像を安置されて、一社相殿の神に祀り、世人の信仰ますます盛んとなり、社名を小白川天神に変更した。

In 1396, Emperor Gokomatsu Miyo Oei 3rd year (1396), Yamagata Castle lord Shiba Naoya, recruited the spirit of Sugawara Michizane, a god of reverence, from Kitano Tenmangu, Yamashiro, and the image of Sugawara's autograph was enshrined. They worshiped the shrine deity and became more and more popular, and changed the company name to Koshirakawa Tenjin.
