南大井の水神社とは違いますよ。池上通りから大井警察署の前を通り、住宅街の中にありました。鯉を祀っているのでしょうか？近所の方々がお掃除などお世話していて、親近感が湧く神社です☺

It's different from Minamioi no Mizu Shrine. It was in a residential area from Ikegami-dori, passing in front of the Oi police station. Is it enshrining a carp? It is a shrine where the neighbors take care of cleaning and so on, which gives a feeling of familiarity ☺

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 水の恩恵に感謝し、水不足の際は雨乞い祈願をするために大井の村民が1685年にこの地に祠を建て、九頭竜権現を祀ったのが大井の水神社の始まりということです。品川区の大井地区がこういう歴史があるところだということを初めて知りました。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 平成２９年１月２９日日曜日に訪問しました。ここも良かった。なにか庶民的。街を守る水の神です。水は人間が生きるためには欠かせない物です。これを大切にする心がここにありました。
We visited on Sunday, January 29, 2017. This was good too. Something common. A god of water that protects the city. Water is indispensable for humans to live. There was a heart to cherish this here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JR西大井駅から少し歩くと住宅地の中に2m程度の窪地に池が‼️岩肌からしみ出し緑を伝ってチョロチョロと池の水面に落ちる水の音が辺りに広がっていました。しみ出す岩肌の所だけに湿度を好みそうな植物が繁っています。台地の上なのに、いいなぁ～長閑な湧水池❗
When you walk a little from JR Nishioi Station, there is a pond in a 2m depression in the residential area !! The sound of water falling from the persimmon rock surface, passing through the green and flowing to the water surface of the pond was spreading around. Plants that seem to like humidity are commonplace only at the rocky surface where it seeps out. Even though it is on the plateau, it's nice-a long spring water reservoir

親子でお参りしました。
私も大切に育てているアジアンタムが、たくさん茂っていて嬉しかったです(^^)
当地の池に湧出していた地下水は、そばに柳の樹があったことから江戸時代から「柳の清水」と称され、村民が飲用や農業用水として利用していたといい、干ばつ時にも枯れなかったとされ、雨乞い祈願の他、歯痛止めの御利益があったとありました。
明治以降、御祭神は水葉乃女命に代わったが、日照りの際に雨乞いをする風習は続いたそうです。

The groundwater that springed from the pond here was called “Yanagi no Shimizu” from the Edo period because there was a willow tree nearby, and it is said that the villagers used it as drinking water and agricultural water. After the Meiji era, the shrine god was replaced by Mizuno-no-mei, but the custom of begging for rain during the sunshine continued.
