m	mewpeg on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 国道24号線の観月橋と側道が交わるあたり、民家の敷地、北西角に案内板が立っています。以下、案内板の記述を転記します。豊臣秀吉が文禄元年(一五九二年)に隠居後の住まいとして、水運により大阪と京都を結ぶ要衝の地であり、本拠である大阪と朝廷に影響力を行使する聚楽第の間に位置する伏見指月の岡に指月伏見城を築いた。この伏見城の支城として、宇治川を隔てた南側の巨椋池に築いた水城が向島城である。文禄三年(一五九四年)に徳川家康が向島の私邸において観月の宴を催した。そこに正客として招かれた秀吉が月見を気に入り、遊山所として築城したともいわれ、慶長二年(一五九七年)、秀吉は完成した向島城に公家や門跡らを招き、瓜見の盛宴を催している。慶長元年(一五九六年)七月十三日深夜に発生した大地震により、指月伏見城が天守含め倒壊した際には、命辛々救い出された秀吉が倒壊を免れた向島城を改修し、一時的に避難したといわれる。向島城は秀吉の死後、徳川家康の居城ともなったが、元和五年(一六一九年)に伏見城とともに廃城が決定し、破却された。今日では巨椋池が干拓されるなど、大きく様相が変わったため、城跡としての痕跡は見つけ難いが、名残として本丸跡と推察される区域が微高地となっているほか、本丸町、二の丸町、鷹場町などの地名が残されている。京都市 There is a guide board on the northwest corner of the private house, along the side of Kanetsubashi on National Route 24 and the side road.
