「続　図説　茨城の城郭」に取り上げられていたので訪問した。付近は水田、蓮田、及び荒廃気味の畑になってしまい、同じ水城で近くにある木田余城が微かに遺構を残すのとは違い全く何も残ってない。本当に何もないが、畑の中に小さな祠があるらしい。葦に覆われているのか確認できなかった。あとは農水路が堀の跡なのかな？と想像するくらいしかできなかった。城主ははっきりしないが、戦国最弱の武将として一部で有名かつ人気な小田氏治の配下の菅谷一族が城主らしい。近くにある天神山古墳（常名神社境内）にある宝筐印塔は佐竹氏に滅ぼされた最後の常名城主・菅谷弾正治貞の墓と言われているのであわせて訪問することをお勧めする。農道の脇にあるのでアクセスは容易だが、迷惑にならないよう農閑期に行くか、離れた所の広い道路脇などに路駐するのが良いと思う。もっとも脇を車で通り過ぎるだけで十分かもしれなが…

I visited it because it was featured in "Continued Illustrated Ibaraki Castle". The lord of the castle is not clear, but the Sugaya clan under the control of Oda Ujiharu, who is famous and popular as the weakest military commander in the Warring States period, seems to be the lord of the castle. The Hokyointo in the nearby Tenjinyama Tomb (in the precincts of Hitana Shrine) is said to be the tomb of the last Hitana castle owner, Tokugawa Harusada, who was destroyed by Mr. Satake, so it is recommended to visit it as well. .. It's easy to access because it's on the side of the farm road, but I think it's better to go during the off-season or to park on the side of a wide road in a remote place so as not to bother you.
