昔は浄土真宗の敬応寺を中心とした寺内町にあったため浄土真宗でしたが、その後浄土宗へ改宗され現在は浄土宗の寺院です。
境内にはとても見事な松があります。
境内は自由にお参りできますが、本堂は庫裏とつながっていて、閉まっていました。
札所ですが、御朱印をいただくには事前に連絡が必要なようです。
正念寺への道は幅が非常に狭く、軽乗用車しか通れませんし、たまに「イケズ石」があるので、軽乗用車でも石にぶつけないように気をつけてください。
