延暦年間（７８２－８０５）征夷大将軍坂上田村麻呂、胆沢郡（現前沢町）白山の地に在陣中、戦捷祈願のため白山姫を勧請し、更に奥地に進み人首丸、大岳丸を討って、大同二年（８０７）人首、栗生沢両村境五百尺余の山上に鎮国の神として奉遷し、白山堂山と称し今なお旧態を存す。
建久五年（１１９４）山頂より本宮の地に移し、葛西氏歴代これを尊信し、鶴ヶ舘に一族が住し、葛西壱岐・同万六郎が社殿を改築、享保三年（１７１８）に至るまで社殿の立替え八回に及び、祭日には特に警固のため足軽二名を巡回当らしめさる事は文政年間（１８１８－１８２９）の風土記に明らかである。現社殿は大正六年（１９１７）の再建にして十二回に及び、建立建替え都度の棟札が今に現存し、第八十二代御鳥羽天皇の御代のものが最も古い。
明治三十二年（１９００）無格社に指定。

Enrolled in the land of Hakusan, Sakaueda village Maro, Ishizawa-gun (present Maezawa-machi) during the Enryaku-Year (782-805), encouraging Hirayama-hime to pray for war, and proceeding further to the Ninjamaru and Otakemaru In 1987, he passed away as a god of the land of the country on the top of the hill of Kurosawa Ryomura, the head of the same year (807), and is still known as Hakusan Dozan.
Moved from the summit to the main shrine in the 5th year of construction (1194), and revered Mr. Kasai's history. It is clear from the cultural history of the year 1818-1829 that two shrines will be patrolled on the holidays, especially for security. The current shrine has been rebuilt in 1917, and has been built 12 times. The oldest one is the one from the 82nd Emperor Toba.
Designated as an unqualified company in 1900 (1900).
