★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 剣(の刃)が上を向いて立っているような岩があるのが名前の由来だと思います。丸みのある部分の谷側の端にあるほか、一段上がった部分にも鋭利に尖った岩が見えます。背景の色と重なったりガスに隠れたりすると分かりにくいですが、よく見れば肉眼で分かります。
剣ヶ岩だけでなく周囲の景色がとてもよいので登りも下りも楽しみにしてください。斜面で足を止めて眺めてしまいますが、少し場所を変えるだけで遥か遠くの景色の見え方が変わるので、渋滞しない程度にたっぷり楽しみたいポイントです。
９月ですが、冷たい風がとても気持ち良かったです。
登りの時は、もう少し！という気持ちになり、下り時は六本桧への尾根もよく見え気持ち良いです。

岩上部にある案内板には「剣ヶ岩には・・・上打波に悪蛇が出没したので、泰澄大師がこれを幅の平の刈込池に封じ、再び出ないように剣ヶ岩に剣を突きたてた」という伝説があります。
と記載されていました。
