「このあたりは，旧町名を駒込神明町といった。駒込の総鎮守の天祖神社（旧称 神明社）にあやかったものである。現在この坂道は 通称 不忍通りにあるが，道路の開設は新しく，大正11年である。町内の坂ということで神明坂と名づけられた」
