Best Izakaya restaurant in japan

They have an English menu and we ordered a small portion of sashimi, which was already expensive (1600 yen for some slices - at least they were really good) and a small cucumber salad (700 yen) + two iced teas for 200 each. When we asked for the bill, what a surprise! The sashimi was more expensive because, as the waitress explained, "the price changes acording to each day" and they also had charged us for two welcome appetizers we haven't asked for. The total amount was 4300 and not 2700 as expected. After discussing it with the waitress we managed to pay the fair and expected value, but we left with the feeling they try to mislead foreign consumers.

J	Juban NYC on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dined at Shinme in December, visiting from New York, this was one of the best Izakaya experiences of my trip having spent 2 weeks traveling around Japan. The quality was exceptional. The space is classic, no frills, its not about the decor, its about the food. The service was very pleasant, I was by myself and do not speak Japanese, when I asked for recommendations the server and owner helped me decide and they did not do me wrong. The ume shiso rice was delicious! I enjoyed the lemon sour! I would have stayed and kept on eating, but I had another Dinner to attend after. Hope to visit you next time I am in Kyoto!!
d	david bauduin on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best Kyoto izakaya This is simply my best experience of all Japan, the whole team is great, they don't speak much English but if you can say a few words of Japanese they will make all the efforts of the world to make your moment pleasant, the welcome is very warm and friendly. The sake and the dishes are delicious. I can only highly recommend this izakaya, thanks again to the whole team !

The chef was very kind and the restaurant was very welcoming to us and our 3 year old. Turtle stew was delicious as was the toro, unagi, tempura, whale bacon, and everything else we tried. Went there twice in the week we were in Kyoto and both times it was mostly filled with Japanese guests rather than tourists. Would highly recommend for a traditional izakaya experience.

Food variety was quite diverse which included sashimi, deep fried, grilled seafood & meat. They served whale sashimi which was quite controversial globally but that was par of the Japanese culture & tradition. Food was OK but prices not really cheap if taking the portion into consideration.
