突然神憑りした「きの」
黒住・金光・天理・大本へと続く先駆け!
「古くは、942年（天慶5年）京の都右京七条二十方に住む多治比文子（たじひのあやこ）という女性に神託（道真の霊から）が下り北野天満宮創建に結びついていくパターンの御利益信仰と同様。」
新宗教が幕末維新期になって次々と生み出されて行ったことと関係する。
天地を創造した主宰神「如来」により使者として遣わされたとして、金毘羅大権現（インドの神クンビーラ）が突然降ったという新宗教の先駆者。「お経さま」と呼ばれ、如来の慈悲によってあらゆる人間が来世において救われることを解き続けた。自宅を「御本元」と称して病気治しなど現世利益を求め人々が集まる。創唱者「きの」が亡くなるのは、1826年（文政9年）。その後養女の菊が継いだものの1858年（安政5年）尾張藩からキリシタンの疑いをかけられ布教が禁止させられた。その後、曹洞宗傘下に入って活動を続け戦後は独立して如来宗を名乗り1962年（昭和37年）如来教と改称した。一方で戦中に分かれた一尊教団も生まれている。
現在、如来教は3075人の信者を抱えているとされているが一尊教団の方は信者数不明とのことです。
