I hope you can have a big summer and autumn festival as soon as you used to!

It is about a 10-minute walk from the Ono River in the Spanish mackerel, and although it is small, there is a parking lot. You can see two real floats and festival-related exhibits. The people at the museum were also kind and gave us detailed explanations of the exhibits and festivals. It is a very large float, and there are historical figures and hawks on it, so it has a height of three floors, and at festivals, such a large float roams the town. The lanterns are lit at night and they are very beautiful. Admission is 400 yen.

The video, which will be screened for about 15 minutes, will give you a deeper understanding of Sawara's floats and show how important summer and autumn festivals are to the people of Sawara. The floats are replaced every six months and are on display.

The actual floats, which are the main part of the traditional festival, are on display. In addition, you can enjoy it so much, such as introducing the festival in a movie. Whether it is worth the admission fee may be subtle.

Stop here if you are in Sawara town for touring. This place is part of the shrine, but it explains the importance of the whole town.

If you’re visiting Sawara you should definately check this museum out. It has the history of the floats, and also houses some of the floats which are used in the city’s annual festivals. In the float exhibition room they even have photo spot pinpoints so you can take the best photos of the floats. There is a theatre room where you can listen to the history of the area. If you arrive in a group of foreigners and are willing to wait they will put on an English translated video (it’s dubbed with a robotic voice, so the pronounciation may be a little strange of some words, but the translation is correct) The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable! Would definitely visit again.

Sawara Dashi Kaikan is the museum of Sawara city carnival which is held twice a year. The Sawara carnival was attended by all Sawara residents using the traditions and customs of each region. This celebration has been going on since the Edo period most than 300 years ago. In this museum, you can see various cultures typical of the Sawara people, such as the Sawara parade and Ayame flowers (Irish flowers).
