美濃路沿いから長いアプローチを入った境内に、織田木瓜紋の鬼瓦がありました。本堂の由緒書きに「住職織田•••」とありますので、尾張守護代織田家の関係の方なのかと思います。
美濃路開通に伴い当地に移転したと記録がありました。名古屋の北西の枇杷島口に、西からの外敵を食い止めるの藩兵の宿泊場所としての役割もあったそうです。本堂内に「西源寺小史」とあり、地域のことがよくわかりました。
Temple with Oda Kigurumi crested ogre tiles
There was a demon roof tile of Oda Gourd Crest in the precinct which entered a long approach along the Minoji. As the history of the main hall says “Junior Oda•••”, I think it is related to the Owari guardian Oda family.
There was a record that it was relocated to the area when Minoji was opened. It is said that it had a role as a lodging place for the clan soldiers who stopped foreign enemies from the west at Bibikijimaguchi in the northwest of Nagoya. In the main hall, there is "A brief history of Saigenji", and I understood the area well.
