★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 平安時代初期の806年に開創され、鴨江寺、頭陀寺と並ぶ浜松真言三ヶ寺の一つに数えられ、「生き観音」の霊場としても信仰を集めています。太平洋戦争により伽藍の全てを焼失しましたが、昭和62年に諸堂が再建されました。
本堂内陣には御本尊の千手観世音菩薩を祀っていますが、近くの馬込川にある太子淵で千手観世音菩薩が聖徳太子の前に現れたとのいわれがあるそうです。
江戸時代の1814年に鋳造された梵鐘は遠州地方最大級のものです。この梵鐘は、森町の遍照寺にある遠州地方随一とされる青銅製の大仏を鋳造した、鋳物師 山田七郎左衛門が鋳造したものです。
Founded in 806 in the early Heian period, it is one of the three Hamamatsu Shingon temples alongside Kamoeji and Todaji, and is also worshiped as a sacred place for "living Kannon." All of the cathedral was burned down by the Pacific War, but the temples were rebuilt in 1987.
The main hall enshrines the Senju Kanzeon Bosatsu, but it is said that the Senju Kanzeon Bosatsu appeared in front of Prince Shotoku at the Taishibuchi in the nearby Magome River.
The Bonsho, which was cast in 1814 during the Edo period, is one of the largest in the Enshu region. This Bonsho was cast by the founder, Shichirozaemon Yamada, who cast the best bronze Buddha statue in the Enshu region at Henshoji Temple in Mori Town.
