★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This has a pretty but small garden. You cannot walk through the garden, just look at it from the platform of the main hall. The main hall has numerous artifacts, many related to the Prince who many think was actually a woman. There was an NHK historical drama about this a few years ago. The main hall has the Nightingale floors which are fun to walk on. All the signs are in Japanese so much hard to appreciate. The adjacent Shinto shrine is also nice. But both are small, only takes about 30 minutes to go through the temple, about 15 minutes for the shrine. An hour tops. Take bus 45 from Hamamatsu station, about an hour bus ride each way. 10 minute walk.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the most famous temples around this area. Best known for its garden (which is undoubtedly beautiful but relatively small). It is almost an hour away from the nearest station and you need to take a bus if you don't have a car. My opinion is that you might better spend your day in Hamamatsu doing something else closer to the station than come all the way to this place but if you love Japanese temples and their gardens, then definitely do pay a visit.
