享保年間（１７１６～３６）に村が荒廃しないことを願い、大雷神(おおいかづちのかみ)を祀り、境内の中央に御神木を植えたのがはじまり、とのこと。

余り知られていませんが、土曜日は御朱印いただけますよ。
日曜も不在時以外はいただけるので、不安なときは電話してからの方が良いと思います。御朱印いただける日は幟が出ています。
