★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visiting this liquor store was a disheartening experience. I had been following Alan Booth's original 1977 route described in "The Roads to Sata" and was 99% sure this was the liquor store he visited on day 32 while on the way to Noheiji, famous for the unfortunate story of elderly owner's wife dropping a beer bottle and drinking glass, only to then slip and fall onto the broken glass. Ouch.
Nowadays, while the doors of the shop remain open and the refrigerators are still semi-stocked with product, the lights are off and the refrigerators are as well. It's almost as if the place remains open in order to serve as a tax write-off. Only the outside vending machines were of any actual use.
Another zombified casualty of the incessant and creeping "combini-i-zation" of Japan...
