蓮如上人「御指図の井戸」
昔、音羽の里に、行基というお坊さんが諸国行脚の時に立ち寄られ、里の女の人に水を求められたのですが、その女の人はお坊さんの身なりを見て、ばかにして水をさし上げなかったので、それ以後、この音羽の里では井戸水がでなくなったということです。その後、室町時代に蓮如上人が 山科本願寺 を建て この音羽に隠居所として 南殿が設けられました。しかし、井戸を掘らせたのですが、当初は水がでませんでした。そこで、地元の人からこの伝説を聞いた蓮如上人は、弟子をつれて、この井戸の所まで来て、畳を敷かせて座り、自らの杖で指図したところを人々が掘ってみると、清水が湧き出たと言われています。これが今に残る「御指図の井戸」です 「それ以来、現在にいた。るまでいかなるひでりが続いても、この井戸の涸れたことはありませんと言われています。

Renjo Jonin "The Well of the Order"
A long time ago, a monk called Yukiki visited Otowa no Sato at the time of a national pilgrimage, and a woman in the village asked for water. Since then, it means that the well water has disappeared in this Otowa village. Later, during the Muromachi period, Renjojojin built Yamashina Honganji and established a southern shrine in Otowa as a retreat. However, I was allowed to dig a well, but at the beginning, there was no water. So Renjojo who heard this legend from the locals, brought his disciple, came to this well, sat down with tatami mats, and people dug out where he directed with his staff. It is said that Shimizu springed up. This is the “well of the order” that remains today. “I have been in it since then. It is said that no matter how hard it continues, this well has never been drowned.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 道の中に一辺2mほど屋根の掛かった立派な井戸があります。行基さんの話もありますが、名のいわれは水の不自由な音羽の里で隠居になった蓮如さんが杖で指図した所から清水湧いて里人すべてが門徒になったとの逸話からです。蓮如上人はこの地で亡くなっています。
