和歌山東高等学校へは徒歩５分程度、和歌山信愛女子短期大学へは徒歩１０分程度です。
現在のダイヤ編成では日中すれ違いがある駅である。
かつては岡崎の免許センター最寄りの駅であったこともあった。
近々当駅近くに阪和道の和歌山南インターができるので、コンビニができました。
また駅前には宅地が造成され、発展の兆しがある。
ICOCA等の交通系IC等は対応していません。
貴志川線で１番和田川に近い駅でもある。
