The history of reclamation of the second largest lake in Japan (at that time) to make it a paddy field and its development as farmland is introduced with photographs, models, and videos.
The reclamation plan has existed since the Meiji era, but it failed due to opposition from residents and fishermen, but the plan was approved for the purpose of resolving the food shortage after the war. There was a lot to learn from the launch and process of the big project, which was completed over 30 years from the start of construction to the livelihood security for local fishermen.

You can learn about the history of Ogata Village development through panel displays and videos, but I feel that the 300 yen viewing fee is high for its contents. No one has a visitor and there is a wasteful building. No free wifi. Only cash available.

You can learn the history of Ogata Village.
It is a very beautiful building, and the next door is a roadside station, so it is recommended for sightseeing from outside the prefecture.

If you apply in advance to the Ogata Village Information Volunteer Association, the settlers will guide you through the museum, including your own experience, and you can tour the village as it is. I don't think there is such a wonderful tour with an admission fee plus an insurance fee of 200 yen. He took me to his own pesticide-free rice fields and houses, and even gave me vegetables as a souvenir. It is 5 stars without complaint.

The reclamation of Hachirogata was a huge project aimed at realizing both “post-war compensation to the Netherlands” and “increased domestic food production”. This museum shows the process until reclamation and the lives of people after settlement. Exhibits include chronology, aerial photographs before and after reclamation, cross-section of Hachigatagata (peeling off), explanatory document to the World Bank, the fund provider, pumps used for reclamation, and tractors and tractors that have fallen into mudiness. A full-scale model of people who want to pull out, a diorama of the settlers' lives. And multifaceted. A newspaper article on post-war compensation in the Netherlands seems to have been recently added.
The fee is 300 yen for general and 100 yen for elementary, middle and high schools. Opening hours are from 9am to 16:30 am (closed on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from April to September and closed on Tuesdays from October to March). Please note that the admission is until 16:00!

This facility introduces the history of reclamation of Hachirogata. The exhibition shows how Hachiro Lake, which was the second largest in Japan, was transformed into farmland. I am surprised that I was able to accomplish such a huge national project in the Showa era.
