You can see the history of Niigata prefecture by age. I felt that the exhibits were real and very easy to understand. I think that children can enjoy the exhibits that reproduce the state of the Jomon period, pottery, the shopping streets of the Showa era, and the lifestyle of the snowy country.
ヒ	ヒサシ“もっちゃん” on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 場所は市街地からだいぶ離れたところにあります。近くに縄文時代火焔土器出土地があります。展示は常設と企画の２種類。来館時は企画展示日蓮上人に関するものをやっていました。常設展示は大きく「新潟の歴史」「雪」「コメ」「縄文時代」の４種類です。実寸大のジオラマが大きくて圧倒されました。しかしこれでは細かい展示内容の変更ができない感じがして何回も行くと飽きてしまいそうな気がしました。（新潟県の歴史スペースには深みがない）展示スペースや内容の濃さからして「歴史博物館」というより「縄文博物館」といった様相でした。 The place is far away from the city. There is a Jomon period flame-style pottery land nearby. There are two types of exhibitions, permanent and planned. When I visited the museum, I was doing something related to the special exhibition Nichiren Shonin. There are four types of permanent exhibits: "History of Niigata," "Snow," "Rice," and "Jomon Period." The full-scale diorama was big and overwhelming. However, I felt that I couldn't change the details of the exhibition, and I felt like I would get bored if I went there many times. (There is no depth in the historical space of Niigata Prefecture) It was more like a "Jomon Museum" than a "History Museum" because of the exhibition space and the depth of the contents.
関	関川義明 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 平日の昼前だったので、ほぼ独り占めで見学できました。入館料は大人520円です。縄文の展示だけでなく、昭和までの新潟県のくらしの様子が窺える展示も多いです。近隣には国営越後丘陵公園、馬高縄文館があります。 It was before noon on weekdays, so I was able to tour almost all by myself. The admission fee is 520 yen for adults. In addition to the Jomon exhibition, there are many exhibitions that show the state of life in Niigata prefecture until the Showa era. Echigo Hillside Park and Echigo Hillside Park are nearby.

S	Seth Steen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of my best museum experiences in Japan. Of course it doesn't truely represent the Jomon people or address their genocide. Also glances over or never mentions history they'd rather forget. Still, great information on a lot of things, even if half the story or out of context.
A	Andrew Thompson on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the better natural history museums. You really get a feel for what it was like to live in the area 100 years ago, or 7000 years ago. The star of the show is the Jomon fire pottery, but they have foot impressions made of their kids, like prehistoric baby photos. Also don't miss the tooth modifications. That stuff can't be undone, and it lasts 3000 years (of your teeth do, which they did in this case). To me the fire pottery looks more like water but it's just a decoration.
