This museum is free, features an interactive green-screen/blue-screen newscaster experience, has an 8K theater, and chronicles Japanese televised and radio broadcasting history. But again, it's free, and within walking distance from Tokyo Tower. There is no reason to not visit this historical gem. Note, however, the most conventional way of reaching this museum is via the slowest elevator in existence, located next to the mouth of a dark tunnel. Another means to access this museum is through the adjacent Atago Shrine, which can be reached by several steep steps.

I’ve had a wonderful experience in this museum. It is spacious, categorized, informative and interactive. The staff is welcoming and people of all ages will enjoy it. My dream of becoming a newscaster was also fulfilled (for 5 minutes (LOL)). Please visit if you’re around the area. I highly recommend. :)

Mainly about the history of TV in Japan, interesting if it's your thing. Buy since entry is FREE and you've got some time to kill after visiting Tokyo Tower go for it

The museum is located at a quite spot among skyscrapers. It's very informative and intriguing. Definitely have to visit if you are a fan of Taiga series or morning dramas. The 4th floor library offers free screening of hundreds of shows, including some old archives that are rare to be found. I spent two afternoons there watching 春よ、来い and that was an absolute highlight of my trip to Tokyo.

Very curated and informative history of the technology of broadcasting in Japan. Shows you the old equipment until Japan's transition to color. Most signages are in Japanese but Google Translate works well enough (so get it on your phone). Some exhibits have English translation descriptions on them.

I visited the NHK museum over two decades ago when it was housed in a grubby building that looked more like a warehouse. There I discovered to my amazement the actual recording by Emperor Hirohito that brought the war to a conclusion. Sitting in a forlorn display with obvious bits of dust and a yellowing display sign it seemed a very unusual resting place for something that saved the lives of millions of people. I was delighted then on a recent return visit to find that the museum had been rebuilt, and the record was now in a high tech display case part of an intelligent two story exhibition that deftly explored Japan’s history as viewed through the eyes of the venerable NHK. Highly recommend.
