このエリアには、横浜市立大学医学部や中央水産研究所、資生堂(当時。現在は移転済みで、癸巳化成が跡地を利用)、KIRIN、JTなどがあり、研究活動が盛んに行われています。
毎年、一般公開のイベントがあります。その際、金沢木材埠頭を母港とする調査船 蒼鷹丸の見学ツアーも開催されます。
