旭川維持工事により新設された防堤で、塞がれた河岸口に鎮座されていた水神社を、ここ一箇所に遷されています。ただ唯一、防堤南端にある河岸口の繋留場に降りる階段途中には、小さな水神社が防堤壁に設けられた祠の中に鎮座されてます。ここ現在の七日市東町から上流の船頭町辺りまでは、たくさんの水神社が今でも鎮座されており、旭川対岸の町には見当たらないことから、この地域の方々の信仰心の深さが伺えます。昭和初期の宅地図を見ると、現在空き地のこの場所には住宅が並んでおり、その家と家の間が川へ下りられる通路のようで、その通路の数だけここに遷された水神様が鎮座されていたようです。ちなみに古地図によると、対岸の東側は工業地域であり、こちら旭川西側は船による運搬物流が盛んだったようで、そういうことも影響しているのかも知れません。
