In the Edo period, the Shintone River was artificially excavated for the purpose of reclamation of Lake Teganuma and Inba-numa, and the conventional Tone River was closed and the flow path was changed with this as the main stream. However, because it was excavated in a straight line, the flow velocity was high and it could not be used for boat transportation, and since the area was lowland like the inland sea until the Middle Ages, flood damage occurred frequently. At the petition of the locals, the Tone River channel was restored in just three years.
