★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very traditional Japanese barber shop in the middle of Hiroo. Family owned and operated. Many foreigners go there for the warm welcome and extra care for kids. Nothing fancy but good cut and warm welcome. No booking possible, just come and take your turn. A favorite for over 10 years.

Very accommodating of foreigners (bring a photo, as English is limited) - in fact the owner says there are many days where there are more foreign customers (many of whom live around here) than Japanese---partly due to the relatively expat-friendly neighborhood.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nakajima Barber is a family of exceptional barbers! Three generations of men and boys in my immediate and extended family have been getting their hair cut here for decades. They were excellent at calming down my very active baby son for his first haircut. My brother and nephew travel over an hour from Mitaka to get their hair cut here.

Having so many repeat customers is a testament to the skill, versatility, and attention to detail you will receive. I have seen many men and women, foreign and Japanese, young and old, with short and long, curly and straight hair in the shop. Communication will not be a problem, but as with all salons, a picture will help.
