"Toshogu" is a shrine that enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu as a deity. Speaking of Toshogu, Kunozan Toshogu and Nikko Toshogu are so famous, but we hear their names not only in Kunozan and Nikko but also in various parts of Japan. For example, in Tokyo, there are "Ueno Toshogu" next to Ueno Zoo and "Shiba Toshogu" located in a corner of Shiba Park, right next to Tokyo Tower, and Owari and Kishu, who were the Shinpan of the Tokugawa family. You can see Toshogu Shrine in various places such as Mito. Toshogu Shrine enshrines Ieyasu, a great shogun. You can feel the power of the Tokugawa family in the Edo period. Currently, there are more than 130 shrines named Toshogu nationwide. A corner of the precincts of Hachimangu, surrounded by a lush forest of about 10,000 tsubo. This Toshogu is also one of the many Toshogu in Japan. As the precincts of Hachimangu (a shrine attached to the head office), it is located at the end of a short approach on the left side of the front shrine of Hachimangu. In fact, there are 16 precincts in this Hachiman shrine, and this Tosho shrine is one of them. Izawanomiya is enshrined next to the pond on the left side of the precincts, and the other precincts (14 companies) are lined up behind the main shrine. This Toshogu shrine was originally a shrine enshrined in Gotenyama, which was built in 1671 (Kanbun 11) to the south of the current JR Iwata station during the time of the 4th Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna. In the 6th year of the Meiji Era, one village and one company in Hamamatsu Prefecture As the precincts of Hachimangu, it moved to the current office and was to be celebrated at the current location in 1890. Currently, on the first Sunday of June every year, the Toshogu Festival is held mainly by the residents' associations in the area (Goten) where Gotenyama Toshogu was once. The Meiji era seems to have been a difficult time for the shrine. The "Proclamation of one village and one company" was proclaimed at the beginning of the Meiji era, but this was a policy of keeping only one shrine in one village and not allowing the existence of other shrines. In addition, the policy called "Jinjagoushi", which was implemented in the latter half of the Meiji era, is also a so-called merger policy of shrines. It seems that it was a policy to make the center of local activities. Due to these policies, shrines nationwide have been implementing one after another, such as the "main shrine ritual" where the deity is enshrined together at the main shrine and the "precinct ritual" where the original shrine is relocated to the precincts of the shrine and used as the precincts. There were about 200,000 shrines nationwide, but 70,000 of them have disappeared. I think that the 16 precincts of this Hachimangu shrine also moved to this lush forest for that reason. Until now, I didn't pay much attention to Toshogu, but when I visit Hachimangu, I definitely want to join hands with Toshogu.
