★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This five star rating is in comparison to other governmental offices the world over. Let’s face it, these are generally not joyous visits which one looks forward to all week. These are completed out of necessity to obtain paperwork for some larger aim. The Naka Ward Office consistently takes the pain out of the experience with efficient processes overseen by kind and helpful staff.
On my most recent visit to certify my hanko at my current address, no sooner had I reached the top of the stairs than a helpful representative greeted me, helped me find the form I needed, and gave me a number to wait for the clerk.
I had barely begun the form when my number was called. Again I was ushered right through the process only to wait for a few minutes until receiving the forms I requested.
I should mention that this was all during a COVID state of emergency so if this level of assistance is available during trying times they must be really on top of their service under better conditions.
They have easy motorbike/bicycle parking in front so I was on my way to work much more quickly than I had imagined.
I speak relatively solid Japanese so am not sure about the level of English assistance available but based on their willingness to help, I imagine it would work out fine.
