1056年陸奥の安倍頼時を討つよう命ぜられた源頼義は京都を出発して矢作川まで来ると洪水のため立ち往生してしまう。そこで「弓矢八幡」に一心に祈ったところ鹿の大群が川の水をせき止め無事に川を渡ることができたのであります！？
1063年に頼義は頼時征伐の帰りにこの地に祠を建てたことが長瀬八幡宮の始まりといわれています。
んー、鹿の大群は神のみのなせる霊源でしょうね。
また、1560年の桶狭間の戦いで織田軍に追われた徳川家康は当社の森から現れた鹿の導きで矢作川を渡り、大樹寺まで辿り着けたという言い伝えもあります。
これはそもそも1586～91年頃までの矢作川は、原始以来のいわゆる乱流そのもので、網の目のように沖積低地を分流しており、低地には自然堤防が次第に築造されていくといった感じで、乙川と矢作川の合流より上は深いところ浅いところあれど、普通に歩いて通れるくらいだったのでしょうかね。
今でも歩いて渡ったりする人がいるみたいですから、ひざくらいの深さのところがあるらしいですよ(笑)
今と違えど、鹿の通る道をたどれば、より安全に渡れるでしょうから真実性の高い話でもあるのかなあと思います。
今も本殿の右側に神鹿のお社がありますね。

In 1056, Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, who was ordered to avenge Abe no Yoritoki in Mutsu, got stuck due to the flood when he left Kyoto and came to the Yahagi River. When I prayed to "Yumiya Hachiman" with all my heart, a horde of deer was able to dam the river and cross the river safely! ??
It is said that Yoriyoshi built a shrine in this area on the way back from the conquest of Yoriyoshi in 1063, which is the beginning of Nagasehachimangu.
Hmmm, the horde of deer is a spiritual source that only God can do.
It is also said that Ieyasu Tokugawa, who was chased by the Oda army in the Battle of Okehazama in 1560, crossed the Yahagi River under the guidance of a deer that appeared from our forest and reached Daijuji Temple.
This is because the Yahagi River from 1586 to 1991 is the so-called turbulent flow itself since the beginning, and it divides the alluvial lowlands like a mesh, and it seems that natural levee is gradually built in the lowlands. Although it is deep and shallow above the confluence of the Otogawa and Yahagi rivers, I wonder if it was enough to walk normally.
It seems that there are still people walking across, so it seems that there is a place as deep as the knee (laugh)
Unlike now, if you follow the path of deer, you will be able to cross more safely, so I wonder if it is a highly true story.
